Kabuchai Member of Parliament Majimbo Kalasinga has publicly declared his opposition to President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027, saying he is among lawmakers dissatisfied with the current political direction of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Speaking during an interview on a local radio station on Friday, June 5, 2026, Kalasinga stated that he fully supports the “Linda Mwananchi” movement, a faction led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo and other Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders who have opposed their party’s cooperation with President Ruto.
The outspoken legislator said the group’s primary focus is to defend the interests of ordinary Kenyans and provide an alternative political voice ahead of the next General Election.
He argued that the country is facing numerous economic challenges that require bold leadership and accountability from those in power.
His remarks come at a time when political realignments continue to shape Kenya’s political landscape, with divisions emerging within both the ruling coalition and opposition ranks.
The growing influence of the Linda Mwananchi movement has sparked debate over the future of ODM and its relationship with the Kenya Kwanza government.
The MP’s declaration is likely to intensify discussions surrounding the 2027 presidential race, as more leaders begin positioning themselves and their parties ahead of the polls.
Political analysts say Kalasinga’s move is significant because it reflects widening cracks within the broader political establishment and signals increasing resistance to President Ruto’s quest for a second term.
Neither President Ruto nor senior Kenya Kwanza officials had responded to Kalasinga’s remarks by the time of publication.
