"Hii Ni Madharau" Gachagua Reacts to Ksh 50M Compensation, Reveals What Govt Gave Him to Resign

Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has confirmed that he had already instructed his lawyers to file an appeal with the Court of Appeal, emphasizing that the matter concerns constitutional principles rather than his personal interests.

“We have analyzed this judgment and agreed that we will proceed to the Court of Appeal. Our goal is to ensure justice is done and that this unconstitutional process is overturned,” he said.

Speaking during a press conference alongside his lawyers, the DCP party leader noted that he continues to receive support from his followers and many Kenyans who are questioning the political situation that emerged following the ruling.

He said the KSh 50 million compensation awarded to him by the court was “a mockery of constitutional rights” and could not compare to the harm he had suffered.

“We are not seeking money. This is not about compensation. It is about justice and constitutional governance. I was once offered KSh 2 billion to resign, but I refused. Justice is not for sale,” he said.

According to him, claims that he is barred from running for president are political propaganda.

He maintained that under Article 99 of the Constitution, no one should be prevented from contesting an election until all appeals have been exhausted.

He said he is prepared to run for president in the 2027 election if the opposition coalition selects him as its flag bearer.

Gachagua also compared the situation to a person being prosecuted without being given a fair hearing, imprisoned, and then later having a court acknowledge that the trial itself was unfair.

Gachagua stated that he would work to ensure that the opposition coalition fields a single presidential candidate to face William Ruto in the 2027 election.

He vowed that if he is not chosen as the coalition’s candidate, he will support whoever is selected and campaign vigorously on their behalf.
