Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot has issued a sharp criticism of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during an empowerment drive in Baringo county.
The senator slammed DCP Party Leader saying it was better to bring Ebola patients to Kenya than having Gachagua to the people of Kenya.
This prompted laughter from the gathering as he sustained attack on the former DP. “Heri Ebola kuliko kuwa na Gachagua (Better Ebola than having Gachagua)." Cheruiyot said.
Cheruiyot accused Gachagua of engaging in divisive politics, alleging that he has been linking national health concerns to ethnic and regional narratives instead of prioritizing the country’s collective interest.
He further urged the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to take action over what he termed as inflammatory statements.
The remarks come amid rising tensions over a proposed Ebola quarantine and treatment facility in Laikipia County, which Gachagua has strongly opposed.
The former Deputy President argues that the facility poses a security and health risk to residents of the Mount Kenya region, claiming it could endanger surrounding communities.
He maintains that locals from Meru, Laikipia, and the wider region reject the project, insisting that the dangers associated with Ebola treatment facilities outweigh any potential benefits.
Speaking while hosting Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) aspirants from Meru at his Wamunyoro home, Gachagua reiterated his opposition to the project, saying the concerns of residents must be respected.
