Ex-LSK President Grabs Public Attention After Breaking Down KSh 4.8 Trillion Budget, Issues Demands

Former Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo has ignited a fresh national conversation on the government's KSh 4.8 trillion budget, placing the administration under intense scrutiny over its spending priorities at a time when millions of Kenyans continue to grapple with a biting cost of living crisis.

In her hard-hitting assessment, Odhiambo argued that the true measure of the budget should be its ability to ease the burden on ordinary households while laying a solid foundation for long-term economic stability.

She acknowledged the substantial allocation to the education sector but insisted that funding must address persistent challenges facing learning institutions across the country.

The outspoken legal scholar called for urgent settlement of capitation arrears, increased teacher recruitment, and the transition of intern teachers into adequately remunerated permanent positions. She further emphasized the need for sustainable university financing to safeguard both access to higher education and academic quality.

On healthcare, Odhiambo urged policymakers to shift focus from policy pronouncements to tangible service delivery. 

She advocated stronger investment in primary healthcare facilities, better-equipped referral hospitals, and expanded financial protection mechanisms to shield vulnerable families from devastating medical costs.
