"Enough Is Enough" US Senator Jim Risch Renews Calls For Action Against Muhoozi After Media Shutdown

The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman, Senator Jim Risch, has called for the US to review its security relationship with Uganda.

Risch's call comes after the recent voice suppressions in Uganda by the country's CDF Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Gen Muhoozi called for the closure of the media sites under the Nation Media group in the country. Some of these included NTV Uganda, the Daily Monitor newspaper, Dembe FM, and Spark TV.

"The U.S. needs to review its security relationship with Uganda." Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba's attacks on free speech, including shuttering major media houses this weekend, make him and the UPDF unfit partners," Senator Risch wrote on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

Risch added on that the unjust act done by Gen. Muhoozi is a call for the U.S. to withdraw its relationship with the country.

"We should only work with those who advance regional security, not diminish it," he added.

This is not the first time Senator Risch is complaining about Gen Muhoozi's actions. A year ago, Risch said Gen. Muhoozi had "crossed a red line" after a series of posts targeting the U.S. Embassy in Kampala.

Risch stated that he saw it as Gen Muhoozi making statements that Washington viewed as threatening to U.S. interests.

Another moment came after Uganda's 2026 elections, where Risch accused the Ugandan government of political violence, abductions, imprisonment of opponents, and intimidation.

The situation surrounding Gen. Muhoozi's actions is now becoming too visible to even foreign diplomats, something that many argue could result in foreign interventions and sanctions.
