"Sit Down" How Wetangula Was Badly Heckled In His Own Backyard After He Stood Up To Defend Ruto

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula returned to his political heartland expecting a hero’s welcome, only to be met by jeers and a blunt order to sit down.

The dramatic confrontation unfolded when Wetangula attempted to defend President William Ruto before a local crowd.

Residents immediately shouted him down with a sharp “Kaa chini!” (Sit down!), signaling that his political goodwill in Bungoma has expired.

For decades, Bungoma has been Wetangula’s safe haven the bedrock of Ford Kenya and the source of his political weight.

But the hostile reception suggests that Western Kenya’s patience with the Kenya Kwanza administration is wearing dangerously thin.

Residents appear no longer willing to separate the Speaker from the President. To them, defending Ruto means owning his entire record, including economic hardships and unfulfilled promises.

And that record, according to the chants from the crowd, is no longer selling in the Western region.

Political analysts say the incident is more than an embarrassment. With the 2027 general election approaching, open rejection from a leader’s own backyard is a wound that does not heal quickly.

Wetangula now faces a stark choice: continue defending Ruto and risk losing Western Kenya entirely, or begin creating political distance before his remaining base walks away.

The crowd in Bungoma did not just heckle a Speaker.

They sent a memo. Whether Wetangula is paying the ultimate price for his alliance with Ruto remains the defining question ahead of 2027.
