Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka Explains Why He Has Multiple Wives and 12 Children

The senator had kept much of his family life private for many years. However, during the emotional funeral ceremony, his children took turns introducing themselves before mourners and leaders who had attended the event.

The moment quickly attracted attention on social media, with many people praising the confidence and unity shown by the family.

Speaking in recent interviews, Onyonka explained that his decision to have a big family was mainly influenced by his love for children and his personal background. He said he grew up as an only child and always desired to have many people around him as part of a close family.

According to the senator, his situation developed naturally over time and was not something he carefully planned from the beginning.

Onyonka also defended polygamy, saying many people judge it unfairly. He argued that in some cultures and religions, having more than one wife is accepted and respected.

The senator questioned why people become shocked when a Christian man chooses a polygamous lifestyle while similar family arrangements are accepted in other communities.

The outspoken politician further stated that he takes full responsibility for all his children. He said he works hard to ensure they are educated, fed, and cared for properly.

Onyonka added that despite challenges between some of the mothers, he remains committed to keeping the children united as one family.

He described his children as happy and said they continue to maintain relationships with their mothers while also spending time together.

During the funeral, the senator also confirmed that former IEBC commissioner Roselyn Akombe is one of his wives, a revelation that shocked many Kenyans because their relationship had never been publicly discussed before.
