'I Pass By Kitale To See The Kids’ – Onyonka Shares Rare Details About His Life with Akombe

Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has publicly opened up about his relationship with former IEBC commissioner Roselyn Akombe, revealing rare details about his private family life that have sparked widespread discussion online.

The outspoken senator made the remarks during a memorial gathering held in honour of his late mother, Teresia Nyaboke Omoke, where he surprised many mourners after openly referring to Akombe as his wife and praising her for supporting his family for many years.

According to Onyonka, he and Akombe have been together for 15 years, maintaining a strong relationship away from the public spotlight despite both being prominent public figures.

The senator defended her against criticism that emerged on social media after details of their relationship became public.

During his emotional speech, Onyonka described Akombe as a caring and dependable partner who stood firmly with his family during difficult moments, especially when his late mother was receiving treatment in the United States.

He disclosed that Akombe played a major role behind the scenes by helping coordinate medical care and ensuring the family received support during the challenging period.

The senator appeared unbothered by public reactions surrounding his family arrangement, insisting that there has always been understanding and respect within his household.

He explained that his family has lived peacefully for years and that there was no conflict among his wives.

In one of the most talked-about moments from the gathering, Onyonka revealed that he is a father of 12 children. He said he takes pride in being present in his children’s lives despite his demanding political schedule.

“I pass by Kitale to see the kids,” the senator said, a statement that quickly attracted attention online and triggered conversations about his commitment to family responsibilities.

According to Onyonka, he regularly creates time to visit his children across different parts of the country, including Kitale, where Akombe reportedly stays whenever she is in Kenya.

The senator also hinted that Kenyans may get to know more members of his family in the future, noting that he has intentionally kept most of his personal life away from public attention.

His remarks have since generated mixed reactions on social media platforms, with many Kenyans praising him for openly acknowledging his children and taking responsibility for his family.

Some social media users described him as honest and courageous for speaking publicly about his personal life without fear of criticism.

Others commended him for maintaining strong family ties despite the pressures that come with national politics.

At the same time, the revelation has also reignited debate around modern relationships, polygamy, and the scrutiny faced by public figures in Kenya.

Some Kenyans argued that leaders deserve privacy in their personal affairs as long as their actions do not harm others.

Others questioned why the senator’s private life had become a topic of public discussion, pointing out that many politicians often keep their families hidden from the spotlight.

Roselyn Akombe is widely known in Kenya and internationally because of her role as a former commissioner at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

She gained global attention following the disputed 2017 General Election after leaving the country and later speaking about challenges within the electoral commission.

Despite her high-profile public career, little has been known about her relationship with Onyonka until now.

Political analysts say Onyonka’s openness may help shape public conversations around family, relationships, and accountability among leaders.

In recent years, Kenyans have increasingly demanded transparency from politicians not only in governance matters but also in their personal conduct.

The memorial event, which was mainly meant to honour the senator’s late mother, unexpectedly became one of the most discussed political and social moments online after his remarks about Akombe and their children surfaced.

As debate continues across social media, many Kenyans appear fascinated by the rare glimpse into the personal life of one of the country’s outspoken lawmakers, whose political career has often overshadowed his family life.
