Dr. Fred Matiang’i has declared that he is fully committed to his political ambitions, saying he resigned from his lucrative position at the World Bank to return home and seek the support of Kenyans ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a public engagement, Fred Matiang'i said his decision to leave the international financial institution was driven by his desire to serve the country at a higher level.
He emphasized that he was not entering politics casually and promised supporters that he would pursue his mission with seriousness and discipline.
“I left my job at the World Bank to come and seek votes, and I did not come here to play around. You know me, I do not do things halfway or carelessly. I believe in doing things properly,” Matiang’i said.
The former Interior Cabinet Secretary, who served in the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, has recently intensified his political activities, sparking speculation about a possible presidential bid in 2027.
Matiang’i told supporters that Kenya requires focused and accountable leadership capable of addressing the economic and social challenges facing ordinary citizens.
He noted that his track record in government demonstrated his commitment to efficiency, discipline, and delivering results.
His remarks drew applause from supporters, many of whom described him as a decisive leader capable of restoring confidence in public institutions.
Political analysts say Matiang’i’s entry into active politics could reshape alliances and influence the opposition landscape ahead of the next election cycle.
Although he has not officially declared his candidature, his recent statements and nationwide engagements have fueled growing debate about his political future.
Leaders allied to different camps are expected to closely monitor his next moves as the race toward 2027 gradually gains momentum.
