Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has sparked fresh political debate after launching a scathing attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his reaction to remarks made by former President Uhuru Kenyatta during the Jubilee Delegates Conference.
Wambugu alleged that Gachagua had expected Uhuru Kenyatta to make controversial political remarks that he could later exploit for political mileage.
According to Wambugu, the former Deputy President had even prepared a press conference in advance, hoping to “interpret” Uhuru’s speech and shape the public narrative in his favor.
However, events reportedly took an unexpected turn after Uhuru instead delivered a message centered on national unity, issue-based politics, and an end to ethnic hostility in the country.
Wambugu appeared delighted by the development, claiming that Uhuru had effectively “thrown Gachagua’s style of politics under the bus.”
He humorously stated that he was “clapping in the office” after listening to the former President’s remarks.
The former MP further praised Uhuru’s speech at the Jubilee gathering, saying it reminded him why he remained loyal to the Jubilee Party even after sacrificing his own political career.
He insisted that Uhuru’s message was exactly what Kenya currently needs as the country moves toward the next election cycle.
Wambugu also questioned individuals surrounding Uhuru whom he accused of misleading the former Head of State into believing Gachagua was politically beneficial to their camp.
During the conference, Uhuru reportedly urged leaders to abandon politics fueled by insults, ethnic divisions, and blame games. Instead, he challenged politicians to focus on policies and development issues affecting ordinary Kenyans.
The remarks have now intensified political conversations across the country, with many Kenyans closely watching the growing tensions between allies of Uhuru and supporters of Gachagua as the battle for Mt Kenya political influence continues to heat up ahead of 2027.
