Ebola: Trump Releases KSh 10.3b Emergency Funding as Ruto Govt Approves Quarantine Facility

The United States government has announced a fresh KSh 10.3 billion emergency funding package to strengthen efforts aimed at containing the growing Ebola outbreak in East Africa, even as Kenya signals readiness to cooperate in a controversial quarantine arrangement involving American citizens exposed to the deadly virus.

The funding, which was approved earlier this week by the US Department of State, is expected to support several emergency response measures across the region, including the procurement of protective medical equipment, expansion of border surveillance systems, contact tracing operations and emergency diagnostic support. According to officials familiar with the programme, the money will mainly benefit humanitarian agencies, medical response organisations and logistics firms involved in handling infectious disease outbreaks.

The latest package adds to billions of shillings already released by President Donald Trump’s administration over the last two weeks as fears continue to rise over the spread of Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda.
