"We Are Happy" Governor Wanga Speaks Out After Winnie Odinga Declares ODM Her Political Home Amid Party Turmoil

Governor Gladys Wanga has broken her silence following remarks by Winnie Odinga affirming her loyalty to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), even as internal wrangles continue to simmer within the party.

Speaking during a press briefing at Chungwa House on Thursday, March 19, 2026, the ODM Chairperson publicly welcomed Winnie’s declaration that ODM remains her political home, noting that the statement reflects commitment and confidence in the party despite ongoing divisions.

Winnie had earlier told Nairobi delegates that ODM is her home and that no one has the authority to “welcome her back,” signaling a firm stance amid factional tensions that have recently rocked the party.

Her remarks came during a high-level delegates’ meeting in Nairobi that also endorsed her for the Deputy Party Leader position.

Reacting to the development, Wanga praised both the delegates and Winnie, describing the engagement as a sign of a vibrant and active political outfit.

She emphasized that grassroots participation and open expressions of support are critical to strengthening the party’s internal democracy.

“Nairobi delegates met, and we are happy that the party is vibrant in Nairobi, and we are also happy that Winnie said that ODM is her home; nobody can welcome her home,” Wanga stated.

However, she clarified that despite the growing support for Winnie’s elevation within party ranks, ODM has yet to receive any formal communication regarding her endorsement for the deputy leadership role.

According to Wanga, any such proposal must follow official channels before it can be considered.

“We are yet to receive any formal communication; once they are received, they will be dealt with by the relevant party organs,” she added.

The developments come at a critical time for ODM as it prepares for its upcoming National Delegates Conference (NDC), where key leadership decisions are expected to be made.

Winnie’s potential rise within the party has drawn both support and scrutiny, with some leaders questioning the timing and underlying motives behind her endorsement.
