Outspoken trade unionist Seth Panyako has reignited debate surrounding the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo, claiming he knows the individuals allegedly behind the incident.
Panyako insists that the fatal crash on the Nakuru–Naivasha highway was not an accident, but a deliberate killing with political motivations.
Jirongo lost his life on the morning of Saturday, December 13, 2025, when his vehicle collided head-on with a Climax bus near Karai. Official police reports classified the incident as a road accident.
However, Panyako and several leaders from Western Kenya have publicly rejected this explanation, citing numerous unanswered questions regarding the circumstances of the crash.
Panyako has asserted that those responsible for attempts on his own life during the Malava by-election period in November 2024 were also involved in orchestrating Jirongo’s death.
He recalled that his vehicles were vandalized and his driver assaulted in a series of incidents he claims were part of a coordinated campaign to intimidate outspoken leaders.
The allegations have found resonance among Jirongo’s family and political allies, who have expressed skepticism about the official narrative.
Questions have emerged over why Jirongo was traveling along the highway around 3:00 a.m., as well as the lack of immediate accounts from the 65 bus passengers who were present at the scene.
They argue that credible testimonies from these passengers could clarify what truly happened.
Prominent political figures, including Kalonzo Musyoka and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, have called for an independent, transparent, and thorough investigation into the incident.
Responding to the growing pressure, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has opened a formal probe, reviewing CCTV footage and reconstructing Jirongo’s movements prior to the crash.
A post-mortem conducted on December 17, 2025, confirmed that Jirongo died from severe blunt force trauma, including a perforated heart and serious spinal injuries.
While Panyako has yet to provide tangible evidence linking specific individuals to the death, his public claims have intensified national discourse over the case.
