Police in Kirinyaga County have arrested a key suspect in the murder of Seth Nyakio, the daughter of a local Member of County Assembly (MCA), more than one year after the tragic incident.
The arrest ends a long period of hiding for the suspect and brings new hope for justice to the grieving family.
The suspect has been identified as Ken Kimathi, also known as Sultan. He had been on the run since October 14, 2024, when Seth Nyakio was found murdered inside a rental house in Biafra Estate, Kirinyaga County.
The killing shocked residents and attracted wide public attention because of the brutality involved and the victim’s background.
According to initial police findings, Nyakio’s body was discovered inside the house under suspicious circumstances, raising immediate concerns of foul play.
Investigators quickly launched a probe and identified Ken Kimathi as the main suspect. However, he vanished shortly after the incident, forcing police to begin a long manhunt.
For more than a year, detectives followed leads across different areas as they tried to track him down. The arrest was finally made following intelligence reports that helped police locate and corner the suspect.
Authorities have not yet revealed the exact location of the arrest, saying investigations are still ongoing.
The arrest has brought relief to Nyakio’s family, which has waited patiently for answers since her death.
Family members and friends had repeatedly appealed to police to ensure the suspect was found and brought to book.
Residents of Kirinyaga have also welcomed the development, saying justice delayed had caused deep pain to the community.
The case has also renewed conversations about violence against women and the need for faster investigations in serious criminal cases.
Rights groups say delays in arrests often increase trauma for families and weaken public trust in law enforcement.
Ken Kimathi is expected to be arraigned in court once police complete their investigations and finalize charges. Prosecutors are working closely with detectives to prepare a strong case.
