The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party has joined the nation in mourning the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister Cyrus Jirongo, whose passing has been described as a major loss to Kenya’s political landscape.
In a condolence message issued on Saturday, ODM noted that Jirongo was a towering political figure whose influence spanned decades and cut across party lines.
His death has drawn widespread grief from leaders, supporters, and communities that followed his long public journey.
Jirongo served as the Member of Parliament for Lugari during two different periods, first from 1997 to 2002 and later from 2007 to 2013.
During his time in Parliament and government, he built a reputation as a bold and outspoken leader who was never afraid to challenge prevailing political currents.
ODM acknowledged Jirongo’s role in shaping national politics, particularly through his involvement in major political formations that influenced key moments in Kenya’s democratic evolution.
He was an active participant in national debates and remained engaged in public affairs long after leaving elective office.
