"I Can't Support Matiangi As Presidential Candidate" Jubilee Senior Member Declares

Aden Keynan, the long-serving Eldas MP and a key figure within the Jubilee Party, has firmly dismissed claims that he supports the alleged plan to endorse former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i for the presidency.

Speaking on Thursday, Keynan stated that while he is a proud elected member of the Jubilee Party, he does not back Matiang’i’s candidature and has never been part of any internal push to position him as the party’s presidential flagbearer.

Keynan’s remarks come at a time when Jubilee is grappling with questions about its political direction and leadership ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Recent speculation suggested that senior party officials were quietly rallying behind Matiang’i, hoping to revive Jubilee’s national influence through his perceived administrative strength and political experience.

However, Keynan has distanced himself from such conversations, insisting that no official party organ has tabled or discussed Matiang’i’s endorsement.

“I am an elected member of the Jubilee Party, and I don’t support the candidature of Matiang’i,” Keynan said, emphasizing that the rumours do not reflect the will of the party members.

He noted that Jubilee, being a democratic outfit, must follow due process in selecting its leaders and cannot rely on informal arrangements or name-dropping to determine its future.

His statement is likely to heighten debate within the party, which has been attempting to reposition itself after years of internal wrangles and shifting alliances.

Keynan called on party leaders to prioritize unity and transparency, warning that premature endorsements risk dividing the already fragile political outfit.

As Jubilee faces pressure to clarify its 2027 strategy, Keynan’s firm stance adds a new twist to the unfolding political narrative.

Whether the party will officially address the Matiang’i endorsement claims remains to be seen, but the Eldas MP has made it clear that he will not be part of that agenda.
