After days of predictions and warning, defiant Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has finally been axed from the majority whip position in the Senate of Kenya.
As reported by KBC news, Khalwale has been removed from the position with immediate effect and his seat taken over by Wetangula's former personal assistant and Bungoma Senator Wafula Wakoli.
The move is evidently linked to the senator's decision to go against UDA party's direction in the the just concluded by-elections in Malava Constituency, Kabuchai Ward and Kisa East Ward.
In the three races, Khalwale chose to side with and support candidates sponsored by opposition parties; that is, DCP and DAP-K parties.
Earlier, Khalwale had received a show cause letter from the United Democratic Alliance party disciplinary committee.
The committee wanted him to show cause as to why he had chosen to oppose government policies and party directions.
While speaking to the media this week, Khalwale maintained that he had done nothing wrong by choosing to support opposition candidates during the elections.
"I want to ask them, did I support a party or individual candidates?," said Khalwale in defense.
To him, he didn't support ideals of another party but supported individuals candidates which does not amount to violation of the Political Parties Act.
Judging from his replacement, it is clear that the party decided to keep the position in Western Kenya.
