Political commentator Wahome Thuku has shared a reflective tribute to the late Cyrus Jirongo, painting the picture of a man who lived life at full speed and refused to be held back by limitations.
In a Facebook post, Thuku described Jirongo as a man who never understood the concept of waiting — whether in traffic, business, or life itself.
According to him, Jirongo belonged to a rare class of leaders who believed that if a path was blocked, the only option was to overtake and move ahead.
Thuku noted that Jirongo was not the kind of person to sit patiently in economic hardship or political stagnation.
Instead, he constantly looked for ways to rise above obstacles, even when doing so meant taking risks that others feared.
This mindset, Thuku implied, defined both Jirongo’s success and the controversies that followed him throughout his life.
The post has sparked widespread reflection online, with many Kenyans agreeing that Jirongo’s bold personality set him apart in business and politics.
Supporters say his refusal to “queue” symbolised ambition and courage, while critics argue it reflected the excesses of Kenya’s political elite.
Still, Thuku’s message was clear: Cyrus Jirongo lived life on his own terms. In a country where many wait endlessly for opportunity, Jirongo chose to push forward — and that, for better or worse, is how he will be remembered.
