Nairobi – Residents of Githurai 44 were left in shock on Saturday, November 1, after a 74-year-old woman was brutally killed in her home.
The elderly woman, identified as Monica Wanja, was found lying in a pool of blood after a domestic fight with her husband.
According to police reports, neighbours heard loud commotions coming from the couple’s house.
Alarmed, they alerted the authorities. When officers arrived, they discovered Wanja had suffered multiple injuries, including wounds on her thigh, wrist, chin, and upper arm.
The signs suggested a struggle had taken place before she died.
A blood-stained dagger, believed to be the weapon used in the attack, was recovered from the scene and is now held as evidence.
Detectives have arrested Wanja’s 75-year-old husband, who is currently in custody at Kasarani Police Station.
He is expected to be arraigned on Monday, November 3, as investigations continue.
Neighbours spoke about the tragedy with visible grief and shock. “We heard shouting and loud banging from their house around noon.
We never imagined it would end like this,” one neighbour said.
Others recalled hearing arguments between the couple for weeks but never expected the situation to turn deadly.
Police are working to piece together the events that led to Wanja’s death. The body of the elderly woman has been moved to the mortuary, where an autopsy will determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward to help with the investigation.
This shocking incident highlights the dangers of domestic disputes, even among elderly couples.
Residents of Githurai have expressed sadness and called for justice, hoping the investigation will provide answers and hold the responsible party accountable.
