Amon Kipruto, 23, from Eldoret, has revealed the painful story behind his decision to sell one of his kidneys in a struggle to escape poverty.
Initially, he had rejected the offer from a group promising financial support, but mounting economic difficulties eventually pushed him to reconsider.
Under severe financial pressure, Kipruto returned to the organ dealers, who arranged a surgery at a local hospital. He was paid KSh 600,000 in return for his kidney.
However, complications emerged almost immediately after the operation, forcing him to seek continuous medical care.
“I agreed to have my kidney removed. They paid me KSh 600,000 as promised,” he said, reflecting on his regret and the impact of his decision.
The incident has also profoundly affected his family. Kipruto’s mother, Leah Meto, described the shock and heartbreak she experienced upon learning of her son’s situation.
Informed by a relative while visiting her own mother, she hurried home to find him in poor condition.
“They told me my son had lost a kidney. I came back immediately and found him unwell,” she said.
Kipruto and his mother now make regular trips to the hospital to monitor the aftereffects of the surgery.
The situation has been emotionally taxing, with Kipruto admitting that his actions have caused distress and embarrassment to his family, particularly his mother.
