In a social media post, the Kenyan lawmaker suggested that the President’s approach to winning the election could lead to a challenging period for her leadership.
Amisi argued that President Suluhu made a key political mistake by not allowing her main opponents to participate in the election.
According to him, an unopposed victory, while decisive, might damage her credibility.
“Suluhu would have still won had she allowed her opponents to run; albeit through electoral fraud, but she would have emerged with some credibility,” Amisi stated.
He implied that facing even limited opposition could have strengthened her legitimacy, while an uncontested win might fuel dissent.
The Saboti MP then predicted a turbulent future for Tanzania.
“But now she will face the most difficult moment in Tanzania history. It is going to be intense from now onwards,” Amisi warned.
He suggested that the absence of a credible democratic contest could lead to long-term political challenges and sustained opposition to her rule.
In his post, Amisi also reflected on Kenya’s political situation, noting lessons that could be drawn from Tanzania’s experience.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining democratic processes and warned Kenyan leaders to avoid similar pitfalls.
Political analysts say Amisi’s comments highlight concerns about the stability and perception of electoral legitimacy.
While a landslide win may seem like a clear mandate, the lack of competition can lead to questions about fairness, transparency, and the government’s ability to manage dissent.
Social media users reacted quickly to Amisi’s post, with some agreeing that unopposed victories carry risks, while others criticized him for commenting on another country’s election.
Regardless, his warning underscores the need for careful political planning and attention to democratic credibility.
