Controversial political activist Nuru Okanga has caused a stir after claiming that the late Raila Odinga has been appearing to him in dreams, expressing discomfort with the tie he was buried wearing.
Speaking in a viral video, Okanga said he has been haunted by recurring dreams in which the former ODM leader tells him he is not at peace in his grave because of the tie.
According to Okanga, the tie represents bondage in Luo cultural beliefs, and burying a person while wearing one is considered a bad omen.
“Baba Raila has been visiting me in my dreams, saying he feels choked by the tie he was buried with,” Okanga stated. “I respect him deeply, but his spirit is not at rest. We must correct this through proper cultural rituals.”
His remarks have sparked widespread reactions online, with some netizens mocking him for seeking attention while others argued that cultural taboos should be respected, even in death.
A section of Luo elders also weighed in, saying if the claims were true, the family could consider performing traditional cleansing rituals instead of exhumation.
However, supporters of the Odinga family dismissed Okanga’s statements as disrespectful and unfounded.
The ODM leadership has not issued an official response to Okanga’s controversial comments.
Meanwhile, the debate continues on social media, where Kenyans are divided between viewing his claims as spiritual revelation or mere theatrics.
Whether motivated by genuine cultural concern or political showmanship, Nuru Okanga’s claims have once again thrust him into the spotlight — reigniting conversations about tradition, respect, and superstition surrounding the burial of the late Raila Odinga.
