Speculation is growing over the political future of Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome after she declared her intention to contest the Murang’a gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.
Wahome is expected to seek the position on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, setting up a potentially competitive contest against incumbent Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, who has since left UDA for the Democratic Congress Party (DCP) associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Her decision has also triggered questions over whether Wahome will resign from President William Ruto’s Cabinet to focus on her gubernatorial campaign. Under Kenya’s electoral rules, public officials seeking elective positions are required to comply with the applicable resignation requirements within the prescribed timelines.
