Loosing Popularity? Crowd No Show as Wanga Holds Rally at Rodi Kopany, Vows To Support Ruto in 2027

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has reaffirmed her support for President William Ruto's bid for reelection in the 2027 General Election, despite facing questions over public support following a political rally in Rodi Kopany.

During the event, Wanga addressed residents while standing on top of her vehicle, urging them to back the government's development agenda and maintain political unity ahead of the next election. 

However, images and videos from the gathering appeared to show a relatively small crowd, sparking debate about the level of grassroots support enjoyed by leaders allied to the broad-based government.

The development comes as political dynamics within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) continue to evolve. A section of younger party leaders, including former ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and Siaya Governor James Orengo, have been associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement, which has attracted growing attention among some ODM supporters.

The emergence of the faction has fueled discussions about the party's future direction and the relationship between ODM leaders and President Ruto's administration. 

While some senior leaders have defended cooperation with the government as necessary for national development and political stability, others have maintained that the party should remain firmly in the opposition.

Political analysts note that the differing positions have created mixed reactions among supporters, particularly in ODM's traditional strongholds, where some residents have expressed reservations about the party's collaboration with the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Despite organizing several public engagements across the region, some established leaders have faced challenges in generating the large crowds that previously characterized their rallies.
