What Elders Did After Coffin Refused To Enter Into Man's 2 Wives' Houses During Burial

A burial ceremony in Western Kenya took a dramatic and deeply emotional turn after mourners claimed that a deceased man's coffin could not be carried into the homes of either of his two wives during traditional funeral rites, leaving family members and residents stunned.

The incident occurred after the man's body was collected from the mortuary and transported to his rural home, where relatives had gathered to perform traditional Luhya final prayers before the burial ceremony.

According to Luhya customs, when a married man dies, his body is first taken into the house of the first wife and then into the house of the second wife before the coffin is placed outside the first wife's home ahead of the final burial.

The tradition is regarded by many families as a sign of respect to the deceased and an important cultural practice before laying a loved one to rest.

Since the deceased had two wives, the family prepared to follow the customary order. Mourners, relatives, and pallbearers gathered as the coffin was carried toward the first wife's house to begin the traditional rites.
