Tension in Kisumu as Church Service Attended by Orengo and Sifuna Ends in Chaos

Tension was reported in Kisumu County after a church service attended by Governor James Orengo and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was disrupted by claims that groups of suspected goons had gathered near St. Stephen's ACK Cathedral.

According to reports circulating online, the groups were allegedly planning to confront people attending the church service.

The incident attracted widespread attention on social media after videos and photos from the scene began circulating online. The situation reportedly became chaotic as people tried to protect themselves while security officers monitored developments.

The political atmosphere became even more heated after Embakasi East MP Babu Owino reacted to the incident through a social media post.

He claimed that individuals who had allegedly intended to attack the leaders faced consequences after several motorcycles believed to belong to them were set on fire.

According to Babu Owino, people had defended themselves after the alleged attack. He suggested that members of the public would continue protecting themselves whenever they felt security agencies had failed to provide adequate protection.

Videos shared online showed motorcycles burning as crowds gathered around the area.

The confrontation has also revived discussions about recent political violence. Some supporters claimed that Senator Edwin Sifuna was being targeted because he comes from Bungoma County and has publicly declared his interest in running for the presidency in the future.

The incident also brought back memories of an earlier confrontation involving Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, who was reportedly attacked during a political event in Kisumu.

Many Kenyans who reacted online condemned all forms of political violence, saying leaders should be free to attend public gatherings without fear of intimidation or attacks.
