Junet Mohammed has found himself at the center of yet another political firestorm after allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, through the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), accused him of orchestrating unnecessary political drama following an encounter at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The latest confrontation has reignited intense political debate as the battle for public perception ahead of the 2027 General Election gathers momentum.
According to the DCP statement, Junet Mohammed and Kisii Governor Simba Arati met United Opposition co-principal Dr. Fred Matiang'i at the airport, where the three leaders exchanged friendly greetings before taking a photograph together.
However, Gachagua's allies claimed that Junet later used the photo to create the impression that Matiang'i was preparing to join President William Ruto's administration, a claim they strongly rejected.
The DCP team maintained that Dr. Matiang'i remains firmly aligned with the opposition and dismissed reports suggesting any political shift.
They further accused Junet of repeatedly advancing similar narratives, pointing to previous claims linking Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro to the government side despite the absence of any official confirmation.
According to Gachagua's allies, the repeated circulation of such political claims reflects growing concern within government-allied circles over the opposition's increasing influence and preparations ahead of the 2027 polls.
The statement ignited widespread reactions across social media. While some Kenyans questioned why opposition leaders continue posing for photographs with political rivals if they later reject the resulting speculation, others predicted major political realignments before the next election.
Another group dismissed the controversy altogether, arguing that citizens are more interested in leaders addressing pressing national issues than engaging in endless political battles.
