Bad News for Ruto as The Standard Splashes His Photo Across the Front Page with One Bold Word

The newspaper featured the word "WHITEWASHED!" alongside a photograph of President William Ruto appearing downcast, a presentation that fueled intense debate across political circles and social media platforms.

The headline followed preliminary results from the by-election, which showed Democratic Change Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau establishing a substantial lead over United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah. 

According to the figures highlighted by the publication, Kamau had garnered more than 29,000 votes, while Nyagah had received just over 4,400 votes after results from the majority of polling stations had been tallied.

The newspaper's editorial choice immediately generated mixed reactions online. Many supporters and critics of the Kenya Kwanza administration interpreted the headline as an indication of changing political dynamics ahead of the 2027 General Election. 

Others, however, argued that a single by-election should not be viewed as a reliable measure of national political trends, urging restraint before drawing broader conclusions.
