Babu Owino Reveals Regions He Wants Sifuna's Linda Mwananchi Tour to Visit After Western Kenya

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has called for the expansion of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna's Linda Mwananchi tour, proposing a nationwide political outreach after the movement completes its ongoing engagements in Western Kenya.

Speaking during the tour, Owino outlined several regions he believes should be included in the next phase of the campaign, arguing that broader national engagement would help strengthen the movement's presence ahead of the 2027 General Election.

His proposal has sparked fresh debate about the opposition's mobilisation strategy as political activity continues to intensify across the country.

According to Owino, the next destination should be the Nyanza region, where he said Sifuna enjoys considerable goodwill among residents. He encouraged the Nairobi senator to engage supporters directly and build on what he described as strong political backing from the region.

The Embakasi East legislator also proposed extending the tour to the Kisii region. He suggested that while there, the movement should engage local leaders, including former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, as discussions over the country's political future continue.

Beyond Nyanza, Owino recommended taking the Linda Mwananchi campaign to Eastern Kenya in an effort to engage the Kamba community.

He said the region remains politically significant and proposed holding discussions with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation among opposition leaders.

Owino further suggested that the movement should later head to the Mt Kenya region, where he believes engagement with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua could broaden the movement's national appeal.

According to the MP, visiting different regions would give the movement an opportunity to listen to citizens, strengthen grassroots networks and encourage wider public participation in national political conversations.

His remarks have fuelled speculation about how the opposition could organise itself ahead of the next election, with supporters viewing the proposed tour as an opportunity to promote unity across different regions.

The Linda Mwananchi movement has attracted increasing public attention in recent months through rallies, public meetings and fundraising activities in different parts of the country.

Supporters say the initiative seeks to promote citizen participation, accountability and public engagement, while critics argue that its long-term political direction remains unclear.

Political analysts note that nationwide tours have historically played an important role in Kenya's politics by allowing leaders to build networks, test public support and strengthen alliances before election campaigns officially begin.

They also caution that while regional endorsements and public appearances can generate momentum, formal coalition agreements often emerge after extensive consultations among political parties and their leaders.

At the time of publication, organisers of the Linda Mwananchi movement had not officially announced whether the tour would proceed to the regions proposed by Owino.

As political activity continues to gather momentum, the proposal by Babu Owino has added another dimension to the growing conversation surrounding the opposition's strategy and the efforts being made to build support across different parts of the country.

Whether the suggested nationwide tour becomes a reality remains to be seen, but the proposal underscores the increasing focus on coalition-building and grassroots mobilisation as leaders prepare for what is expected to be a highly competitive 2027 General Election.
