NEWS IN: Bus Full Of Students Overturns Along This Highway, Details

More than 50 students were injured on Wednesday morning after a school bus carrying 59 learners overturned along the Eldama Ravine–Nakuru Road in Baringo County.

The accident occurred at around 9 a.m. near the Kibasiso reportedly suffered a mechanical failure. Preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle's brakes failed, causing the driver to lose control before the bus veered off the road and overturned.

The bus was transporting students to Mogotio for regional music festivals. Reports indicate that the vehicle was carrying 59 learners drawn from two schools at the time of the accident.

All the students sustained injuries of varying severity, but authorities confirmed that no fatalities were recorded. Emergency responders and residents quickly rushed to the scene and assisted in rescuing the learners from the wreckage.

The injured students were taken to several health facilities for treatment, including Eldama Ravine Sub-County Referral Hospital, Mercy Hospital, Ravine Specialist Hospital, and Eldama Ravine Nursing Home.

Photos circulating on social media showed the heavily damaged bus lying on its side beside the road as rescue operations continued. Police officers from Eldama Ravine Police Station secured the scene and launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the crash.

The incident comes barely five days after another school transport accident in Naivasha. On June 13, a matatu carrying learners from Ngondi Junior School reportedly lost its brakes and plunged into a valley along Maiella Road. The crash claimed the life of the driver, while 10 pupils sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

The two accidents have renewed concerns over the safety of school transport vehicles, with parents and road safety stakeholders calling for stricter inspections and enforcement of transport regulations. Questions are also being raised about the mechanical condition of vehicles used to transport students, particularly during school events and long-distance trips.

Authorities are expected to release a detailed report once investigations into the Eldama Ravine accident are completed.
