Murang'a Governor Irungu Kang'ata has thrown a candid political challenge at Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, warning that his 2027 presidential bid will hit a wall unless he secures the blessing of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other regional elders.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Kang'ata who recently joined the Linda Mwananchi opposition movement said Sifuna must navigate the realities of Kenyan coalition politics if he hopes to mount a credible challenge against President William Ruto.
"Sifuna cannot go far without consulting regional elders. Like where I come from, he needs to talk to Wamunyoro because without Wamunyoro's blessings, he cannot go beyond him that is real politics," Kang'ata said.
The Murang'a governor was emphatic that Gachagua, the impeached former deputy president, remains the dominant political voice in the Mt Kenya region and will be a decisive force in the 2027 election.
