Months after the passing of gospel singer Betty Bayo, fresh controversy has emerged after her former husband Victor Kanyari publicly claimed he knows the true circumstances behind her death and warned that he may reveal details if ongoing disputes over their children are not resolved.
Speaking during a sermon on Sunday, June 21, Kanyari shifted attention from his current family disagreements to the late singer’s death, making remarks that quickly triggered public debate.
Betty and Kanyari were once married and had two children, Sky and Danivictor. After their separation, Betty raised the children while living at her home in Edenville Estate with her partner, Hiram Gitau.
At the time of her passing, family representatives stated that Betty had been battling acute myeloid leukaemia, a severe form of blood cancer, and died due to related complications that were diagnosed at an advanced stage.
However, Kanyari told his congregation that he believes the public explanation does not capture the full truth.
He alleged that he has additional information about what led to her death and suggested he could disclose it if his concerns about his children are not addressed.
He also accused Tash of neglecting his responsibilities regarding the children.
His comments have not been independently verified, and neither Tash, Betty’s family, nor Kanyari’s relatives had issued an official response by the time of publication.
The remarks quickly spread online, drawing mixed reactions.
Some social media users urged him to speak openly if he has evidence, while others criticised the timing of his claims and questioned whether frustration over custody matters may be driving his statements.
Others called for sensitivity, noting the emotional weight surrounding Betty’s death and the wellbeing of the children.
As debate continues, the situation has reignited public attention on the late singer’s family affairs and the ongoing tension between those closest to her.
