Duale Responds to Satellite Images Showing Construction at Laikipia as Kenyans Demand the Truth

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has maintained that no Ebola quarantine facility is under construction at the Laikipia Military Base. Satellite images circulating online are telling a different story, and Kenyans are stuck between the two.

The contradiction has moved the debate beyond public health. It is now a question of credibility. When a government dismisses visual evidence without opening the site to independent scrutiny, the space between official statements and public trust widens fast.

Kenya has every right to prepare for the Ebola threat spreading from the Democratic Republic of Congo into neighbouring Uganda.

Thousands of Kenyans are stationed in eastern DRC, and the government has said more than 20 screening centres are already operational at border points.

What the government does not have is the right to expect Kenyans to take its word over images they can see with their own eyes.

In the age of satellite technology, social media, and independent observers on the ground, official denials require more than a press statement to hold.

The protests at Laikipia have already claimed one life. A second death remains unidentified. Thirty-five people were arrested, processed through court, and released on Ksh5,000 bail each. These are not the actions of a community that trusts what it is being told.

If no facility is under construction, the government has a simple solution. Open the gates.

Invite journalists, health experts, or independent observers inside and let the images answer for themselves. A government confident in its position does not fear scrutiny.

If construction is underway, Kenyans deserve a straightforward explanation of what is being built, who approved it, and what the timeline looks like. Silence dressed as denial helps nobody.

The longer the two narratives run side by side, the harder it becomes for either side to claim the truth. One version is wrong. The question Kenyans are asking is which one.
