President William Ruto has intensified his development tour in Western Kenya, making a series of promises aimed at boosting infrastructure and improving livelihoods.
During his stop in Busia, the Head of State pledged to construct a modern stadium, expand affordable housing projects, and upgrade key roads to bitumen standards.
Speaking to enthusiastic crowds, Ruto said the government is committed to ensuring no region is left behind in the national development agenda.
He noted that the proposed stadium in Busia would not only nurture local talent but also create economic opportunities for youth through sports and related activities.
Groundbreaking for the KSh 5.5 billion Nasewa project in Busia County, set to deliver 2,000 modern units. Additional housing initiatives, including a KSh 654 million RECO project and elements of a broader KSh 17 billion push, aim to create jobs and uplift living standards.
Modern Markets: Foundation stones laid for the KSh 130 million Budalang’i Modern Market in Busia and the KSh 270 million Malaha Market in Mumias East, Kakamega.
Another 24 markets across Kakamega County will cost KSh 4.4 billion, replacing informal trading centres with proper storage, sanitation, and trader-friendly facilities.
Roads & Infrastructure: Launch of the KSh 860 million, 13-km Nangina–Sio Port–Okados–Mundere Road in Busia (linking Funyula and Budalang’i for trade); the KSh 545 million Matayos–Namwitsula Bridge–Nawesa–Shibale Road; and KSh 953 million rehabilitation of 11 km of Chavaki–Lusiola and Shikumu–Malinya roads in Vihiga. Ruto also inspected Kakamega Airstrip upgrades.
Water & Energy: KSh 212 million Shitoli Water Project rehabilitation and solarisation in Ikolomani, Kakamega (benefiting over 45,000 residents); Nderema Last Mile Electrification connecting 161 households (part of a KSh 2.37 billion programme for 36,700+ homes).
Health & Education: Opening of the 124-bed Butere County Hospital and launch of Malava Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Kakamega.
Ruto defended the spending, telling crowds: “We have a clear and demonstrable track record in delivering housing, health, education, roads, and other critical infrastructure… Our plan is credible, practical, and proven through decisive action.”
