The absence of the two senior party officials attracted attention because Sifuna is the party’s Secretary-General, while Osotsi serves as Deputy Party Leader.
Speaking after the meeting, Oburu clarified that both leaders had official reasons for missing the gathering and had informed the party in advance. According to Oburu, Senator Godfrey Osotsi is currently out of the country.
“Godfrey Osotsi is in South Africa and sent his apologies. He attempted to travel but was unable to make it,” Oburu said.
Oburu further explained that Senator Edwin Sifuna missed his flight to Vipingo, which prevented him from attending the meeting.
“Edwin Sifuna also sent his apologies. He missed his flight, and both of them were granted permission by the committee to be absent,” he added.
Earlier on Monday, Oburu had announced that the meeting was convened to allow ODM leaders to discuss important political and national issues affecting both the party and the country.

He said the gathering was part of ongoing consultations within the party as it plans its future direction.
Oburu emphasized that ODM remains committed to unity, internal consultation, and listening to the voices of its members and the wider Kenyan public.
“As a party, we believe in consultation, unity of purpose, and principled leadership. We continue to listen to our members and Kenyans as we shape the future of ODM,” he stated.
Several senior ODM leaders attended the meeting, including Deputy Party Leader and Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, Party Chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Deputy Party Leader Simba Arati, and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, who is also the party’s Director of Campaigns.
The meeting came amid reports of internal tensions within ODM. In recent days, Oburu has held separate meetings with key party figures, including Edwin Sifuna and Junet Mohamed, in an effort to promote dialogue and unity.
After meeting Sifuna earlier in the week, Oburu described him as a principled and sober leader, stressing that differences of opinion do not mean division.
