What Kenyans Told IEBC Chair After Lecturing Them Over Endless Criticisms Towards His Commission

On Monday, IEBC Chair Eractus Ethekon lectured Kenyans for constantly criticizing and blaming the commission for everything that happens during elections in the country.

According to him, the public often points fingers at the IEBC even when mistakes are not the commission’s fault.

In a statement, Ethekon explained that even when political parties or their candidates make errors, the blame usually falls on the IEBC instead of the real individuals responsible.

He said, “People forget that mistakes can come from many sides. It is not always the commission that is wrong, but the political actors who do not follow the rules.”

He further urged Kenyans to carefully find out where problems actually lie instead of rushing to blame the IEBC.

“If a mistake happens during elections, it is the politicians who must be watched and held accountable. The IEBC’s role is to manage and oversee, and our commission is always acting within its mandate," he added.

He emphasized that blaming the commission without understanding the situation is unfair.

However, his statement caused a stir on social media, with many Kenyans quickly responding to his comments. Some argued that the IEBC does make mistakes and that accountability should be shared.

Others defended the commission, agreeing that politicians often create confusion and manipulate processes that then appear as IEBC failures.

Many users urged both the commission and political leaders to work together for transparent and smooth elections.

Despite the mixed reactions, the discussion highlights how passionate Kenyans are about the conduct of elections in the country.
