How Ngunjiri Wambugu Has Reacted Following Reports That ODM Is Eyeing DP Slot In Ruto's Government

Ngunjiri Wambugu has added his voice to the ongoing political debate sparked by reports that the ODM party is exploring the possibility of securing the Deputy President position after the 2027 elections.

His remarks focus on what he sees as an unusual discussion taking place while the current administration is still in office.

Wambugu argues that ODM already enjoys access to the Deputy President position through the current coalition arrangement.

From his perspective, it is strange for the party to express interest in a role it technically holds under the existing political structure. This forms the basis of what he considers an ironic situation.

He also draws attention to the recent statements made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Gachagua has been urging parties to withdraw from the government and prepare for a new coalition that he hopes will shape the political contest in 2027.

His call is aimed at building fresh alliances outside the current administration.

Wambugu sees a major inconsistency in this proposal. He notes that parties leaving the government would be giving up a position that is already secure.

According to him, the new coalition that Gachagua is promoting does not guarantee any party the same level of influence or access to high office.

In his view, the plan demands that parties abandon a certain position in exchange for an uncertain future.
