Pressure Mounts for Edwin Sifuna to Resign from ODM Over Stand on Ruto's Re-election Bid

Several 'ODM' leaders allied to the broad-based government have intensified calls for Edwin Sifuna’s resignation from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), citing his firm stand on President William Ruto’s re-election bid. (Source: Tuko.co.ke, October 2025)

According to insiders, Sifuna’s recent remarks supporting dialogue and political coexistence with the Kenya Kwanza administration have rattled hardliners within 'ODM,' who accuse him of betraying party ideals and Raila Odinga’s legacy.

Some leaders have reportedly claimed that Sifuna’s position is incompatible with ODM’s opposition stance, urging him to make an honourable exit if he no longer aligns with the party’s direction.

However, Edwin has maintained that his statements were misinterpreted, insisting that his focus remains on peace, development, and national unity.

In my opinion, this controversy captures the tension within 'ODM' as the party tries to redefine itself after Raila Odinga’s exit from active politics.

Kenya’s opposition is standing at a crossroads between those who want to maintain hard resistance against the government and those calling for collaboration in the spirit of unity.

But here’s the bigger question: is political cooperation really betrayal, or could it be a new way forward in Kenya’s maturing democracy?
