Another Movement? MP Ichungwah's Villager Mock on Gachagua Spreads Like Bushfire in Mt Kenya

On Thursday, Majority leader of the National Assembly Kimani Ichungwah made headlines after hitting at leaders propagating tribal politics saying Kenya’s eyes are set on the global podium alone.

In what was perceived to be an indirect attack on DP Rigathi Gachagua, Ichung'wah accused the leaders of drawing back gains made by Ruto administration, in unifying the country and making Kenya a haven for internationals.

Ichungwah said there are leaders who have reduced national leadership positions to village roles. He castigated on trivial talks centered on succession, noting that a nation cannot be formed by a leader seeking villagers' attention.

”Kenya is now playing at a global stage, we are globalizing our country. We cannot afford to dwell on village matters now. If there’s globalizing, then let us not villagize our country. President Ruto has placed this country on a global stage. You cannot build a kingdom from someone seeking the attention of the villagers” Ichungwah stated

However, his remarks seemed to have elected sharp reactions from a section of Mt Kenya residents, who have now made his remarks a movement. Many have gone ahead to print caps and t-shirts written "The Villager" a similar move to the 2018 inborn of Ruto's Tangatanga movement.

Tangatanga, which later became a huge political movement for the then DP William Ruto came about after former President Uhuru indirectly mocked Ruto, saying he had been hovering around the country.

The same movement later became big and a force to reckon with, wrestling down Raila Odinga in 2022. Will DO Gachagua also snatch The Villager movement talk and capitalize on it? this remains only a matter of time
