This was the head of state opted to use a private luxurious jet to US, abandoning his traditional presidential Jet Harambee One.
According to records from the Abu Dhabi-based jet company, it costs about 98 million shillings on a one-way trip from Kenya to US and the same amount back to the country, taking a whooping over Ksh196 million shillings on the jet alone.
However, while speaking on Tuesday, the seemingly agitated Mwaura dismissed the talks on the cost, terming such as stupid questions. He rebuked the questions claiming they are demonic in nature.
He said Ruto as the president had gone to look for good things for the country and nobody should question the amount of his fare to the states.
"Wewe unauliza maswali hayo, hayo mawasli ni ya kipuzi kabisa. Shindwe wewe ibilisi pepo mbaya. Rais ameenda kama mzee was hii kijiji ya Kenya kututafutia halafu wewe unauliza fare ni pesa ngapi?" lashed out Mwaura.
{You're asking those questions, those questions are completely foolish. Be defeated, you evil demon. The President has gone as an elder of this village of Kenya to seek for us, and then you're asking how much the fare is?}
The cost of Ruto's visit comes in the wake of the government announcement that it was going to reduce extravagance costs as one way of reducing the cost of operations in the country and saving money.
Here are some angry reactions on X towards Mwaura's remarks:
"Who are these people that president William Ruto gave senior government positions? How on earth does the govt spokesman answer a question with all this ego. Were they really hustlers?" posed one user
"Is he addressing a public rally of semi-literate demagogues or responding to questions as a government spokesman? This is the disaster of rewarding cronies whose only qualification is sycophancy to serious state jobs that require professionals. Shame..." added another.
