Protestors Chant anti-govt Slogans on Tuesday in Nairobi CBD as They Protest Against the Finance Bill 2024

"We want fairness! No more taxes on basic needs!" shouted one protester, echoing the sentiments of many who feel burdened by the increased financial demands imposed by the bill.

The Finance Bill 2024, recently passed by the government, has sparked widespread discontent due to its provisions that some argue will impose heavier financial burdens on ordinary citizens.

Critics of the bill point to new taxes on essential goods and services as particularly unjust, claiming they will disproportionately affect low-income earners.

"The government needs to listen to us. We are struggling already, and these new taxes will only make things worse," said Grace, a participant in the protest. Many protesters expressed frustration over what they perceive as a lack of consultation with the public before passing the bill into law.

"We have a right to protest peacefully. Our voices must be heard," remarked Peter, another protester, emphasizing the importance of citizens' rights to express dissent in a democratic society.

The protest in Nairobi reflects broader concerns about economic policies and their impact on everyday life. Social media platforms have been abuzz with discussions about the fairness of the Finance Bill, with many users expressing solidarity with the demonstrators and calling for greater transparency in government decision-making.

Moving forward, protesters plan to continue advocating for changes to the Finance Bill, urging lawmakers to reconsider its provisions in light of public concerns.
