Knight Ajenya, a woman from Vihiga County in Kenya, had high hopes when she left for Saudi Arabia, intending to secure a better future for her family. However, her dreams quickly turned into a distressing ordeal, highlighting the risks many face when seeking work abroad.
Ajenya’s troubles began just two months after her arrival in Saudi Arabia. She developed severe health problems, including persistent throat and stomach pain, and alarming symptoms like blood in her stool.
Despite her worsening condition, she was provided with minimal medical care and endured harsh working conditions with insufficient food. "I was given very little food and had to wake up very early in the morning," she explained, reflecting on the tough conditions she faced.
Desperate for help, Ajenya’s father tried to get assistance through the agent who had arranged her employment, but his efforts were in vain. As Ajenya’s health deteriorated, it became clear that her situation required urgent intervention.
A Good Samaritan eventually came to her aid, helping her return to Kenya. This timely rescue brought immense relief to her family, who had been deeply worried about her safety. Ajenya's return was met with an outpouring of support and empathy from the local community and social media users, many of whom shared their own experiences and offered words of encouragement.
On social media, many expressed relief at her safe return and outrage at the conditions she faced. One user commented, "Thank God she arrived safely," while others highlighted the harsh realities of life for many migrant workers in Saudi Arabia, emphasizing the need for better protections and support.
