Levina Hugo, 58, passed away just two weeks after her son, Rogassion Massawe, was found dead under distressing circumstances.
Massawe, a young Catholic monk, was discovered dead inside his room at the seminary where he studied.
Reports indicate that he had been struggling with depression, worsened by the pressure of upcoming exams critical for his advancement in the church.
Before his death, he left a letter apologizing to his family for feeling that he had let them down.
The loss of her son severely impacted Hugo’s health. According to family members, she was overwhelmed with grief upon learning of Massawe’s death and became ill almost immediately.
This illness prevented her from attending his funeral on May 25, as her condition worsened and required hospitalization.
Jerome Aloyce, Hugo’s younger brother, described the deep sorrow the family has endured. “Since learning about her son’s death, Levina has not been herself. She was in and out of the hospital, unable to cope with the shock. Her death has deeply hurt us. Losing both Levina and Rogassion in such a short time is an unbearable blow,” he said.
Hugo’s deteriorating health condition underscores the profound emotional and physical toll that the loss of a loved one can have. Her death, so soon after her son's.
Hugo is scheduled to be laid to rest on June 15. The double tragedy has left the family grappling with intense grief as they prepare for yet another funeral.
