Farmhand Who Killed Employer, Teacher In Murang'a Arrested In Ruiru After 20 Months On The Run

Fred Cheluba Murunga, a farmhand who allegedly murdered his employer, Paul Njuguna Kamau, has been arrested after 20 months on the run.

The arrest took place on Monday, June 10, 2024, in Ruiru, where Murunga was attempting to secure a job at a local security firm. The crime occurred on September 22, 2022, in Kigumo, Murang'a County.

Paul Njuguna Kamau, a 63-year-old resident, was killed at his family home. Murunga had been employed by Kamau for only a month and a half before the incident.

On the morning of the murder, Murunga sent Kamau's 12-year-old grandson to a nearby shop. When the boy returned, he found his grandfather locked in the kitchen and in severe pain.

Neighbors and police, alerted by the child's calls for help, rushed to the scene. They found Kamau dead, with the murder weapon—a machete—lying beside him.

Both the victim’s motorcycle and mobile phone were missing. Preliminary investigations revealed that these items were sold in Eldoret, a town hundreds of kilometers away.

The local police and detectives from Kigumo began a manhunt for Murunga, who had disappeared. Despite their efforts, Murunga managed to evade capture for nearly two years.

The breakthrough came when detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) received a tip-off. Acting on this information, they tracked Murunga to a security firm in Ruiru.

Upon his arrest, Murunga was taken into custody, ending his lengthy flight from justice. The police believe his attempt to start a new life in Ruiru by securing employment was his downfall.

The arrest marks a significant step towards justice for Kamau and his family, who have been seeking closure since the tragic event.highrevenuenetwork.com/d7/38/a5/d738a5e38a514ea39b3229767e622ca7.
