A Nyeri family is facing unimaginable distress after their 1-year-old son, Ian Kariuki, vanished, allegedly abducted by their nanny, Jane Nyambura Wanjohi.

Joyce Wanjeri, Ian’s mother, has been on a frantic search for her son since his disappearance on Friday, May 31.

The heart-wrenching incident was reported to authorities at the Kiamwathi Patrol Base and documented under Occurrence Book (OB) number 02/01/06/2024.

Wanjeri shared that the last sighting of Nyambura was in Mweiga town, Nyeri, on Tuesday, June 4, accompanied by another woman carrying Ian.

The family is deeply troubled by Ian’s disappearance, especially considering the strong bond he shared with Nyambura.

Wanjeri recounted how Ian would often refuse to be separated from his nanny, further complicating the situation.

Despite Wanjeri’s tireless efforts to track Nyambura down, the search has been hindered by the nanny's decision to leave behind her belongings, including her phone.

Michael Kariuki, Ian’s father, highlighted the unique connection between Ian and Nyambura, noting instances where the toddler would only settle in Nyambura’s care.

The family has reached out to Nyambura’s relatives in Karatina town, her hometown, seeking assistance in locating her and Ian.

The disappearance of Ian has left the family devastated, and they are appealing to the public for any information that could help reunite them with their son.
