Mary Mwihaki, a young woman from Nakuru, has shared a heartbreaking story of rejection and mistreatment by her in-laws. Her ordeal began after she lost two babies soon after birth, leading her in-laws to view her with disdain and ultimately force her out of her husband's house.

Mwihaki's troubles started early in her marriage. She lost her first baby during childbirth due to complications, and the baby died two days later in the nursery. She recounted how difficult it was, especially as a first-time mother, dealing with the loss and the absence of her husband, who only visited the hospital once.

The loss of her second baby further strained her relationship with her in-laws. When she got pregnant for the third time, her in-laws had already decided to sever ties with her. They believed she was cursed due to the consecutive losses of her children. This belief led to a cruel turn of events.

While she was pregnant with her third child, Mwihaki’s sister-in-law took it upon herself to pack Mwihaki’s belongings and throw her out of the house.

The sister-in-law expressed her dislike for Mwihaki and declared she would find a more suitable woman for her brother. Mwihaki’s mother-in-law supported this decision, insisting that Mwihaki and her supposed curse should stay away from the family.

Despite these harsh circumstances, Mwihaki successfully gave birth to her third child, a boy, and took on the challenge of raising him alone. Her story highlights the severe stigma and lack of support that can accompany repeated pregnancy loss.

The rejection by her in-laws not only left her homeless during a vulnerable period but also underscored the harsh judgments and superstitions that can persist in some communities.

In a related story, another woman from Naivasha, Grace Muthoni, shared her own challenges. After ten years of marriage and the birth of five children, three of whom died, Muthoni was cast out by her husband and mother-in-law when she could no longer conceive.
