The body of a 30-year-old woman, a school principal who has been missing for days was found decomposed in her house in Kasarani, Nairobi.
The police said they received the report of the missing person long after the said person had died.
The body was discovered on May 28 evening long after she had died.Neighbours along Lumumba Drive complained of a foul smell from Mary Njoki’s house prompting them to alert police.
The body was decomposed by the time it was discovered. It is not clear when she died and what caused her death as preliminary investigations point to murder.
They said they had not seen her for up to four days.Police visited the scene and established it was locked from inside with a padlock.
She had not been seen for days until Monday, May 28 when the residential caretaker reported that there was a foul smell from her house.
Police said they broke into the house and found the body half naked on the bed and decomposed.The cause of her death was not immediately known, Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said.
The house had been locked from inside which forced the neighbours to break in to establish the source of the smell.
The police were informed the woman lived alone in the house and had minimal interaction with her neighbours.
A relative said the woman had been complaining of stomach pains and was bleeding.The relative also said he had been calling the deceased woman for three days with no response.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.
