During the 26th National Prayer Breakfast held at State House in Entebbe, President Yoweri Museveni expressed his appreciation for various faiths, including traditional healers, for their role in his successful liberation struggle, which culminated in his rise to power in 1986
He shared a personal experience of how a traditional healer contributed to his victory by making him jump over a slaughtered hen three times, a ritual believed to guarantee triumph over the government forces he was fighting against.
Museveni further revealed that during the planning of attacks, traditional healers would conduct rituals on him and his comrades, as well as their weapons. These rituals were intended to provide blessings, guidance, and protection, underscoring the significant role traditional practices played alongside military strategies.
He emphasized that all faiths, whether religious or traditional, are equally important and called on Ugandans to shun religious sectarianism, instead fostering unity and collective effort in building the nation.
The National Prayer Breakfast saw the attendance of several notable figures, including Her Excellency Jewel Howard-Taylor,the former Vice President of Liberia, Apostle Isi Igenegba from Nigeria, and Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, along with her Deputy, Thomas Tayebwa.
Addressing the gathering, First Lady Janet Museveni expressed concern over Uganda’s high ranking on the global corruption index. She urged all citizens to actively participate in the fight against corruption, with the aim of restoring integrity, transparency, and public trust in national institutions.
