Revealed; List Of 6 Mt Kenya Leaders Who Can Replace Gachagua As Ruto's DP If Impeachment Motion Sails Through

Three close aides of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua were questioned by police on Tuesday regarding recent protests led by youths amid discussions of a plot to remove him from office.

These individuals recorded statements with officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at Karen Police Station concerning allegations of interfering with and funding protests that forced President William Ruto to withdraw the 2024 Finance Bill and dissolve his Cabinet.

Initially, the list of those to be interviewed included five staff members, but investigators reduced it to three after clearing two of them.

They were questioned on the same day that Mr. Gachagua’s allies claimed that some of President Ruto’s associates were planning to remove the Deputy President from office.

President Ruto had previously claimed that the “legitimate” protests by Gen Z against the proposed taxes had been hijacked by “organized criminals.”

On the day the President withdrew the 2024 Finance Bill, his deputy, addressing the nation from Mombasa just minutes after the President's speech, claimed there had been attempts to link him to the protests. He accused the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), Noordin Haji, of trying to implicate him along with former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

North Embakasi MP James Gakuya told Kameme FM on Tuesday that “a politician from Kiambu County has been gathering signatures to initiate the process of removing Mr. Gachagua from office.”

He said Mr. Gachagua’s allies are waiting to see how the plan unfolds, emphasizing that the Mt. Kenya region must stay vigilant as this would be a political disaster if it came to pass.

He lamented what he described as Mt. Kenya’s tendency to fight against leaders from the region, saying there are “leaders from the region who have been attacking Mr. Gachagua to please their backers who have ill intentions for our people.”

Several names have been listed as potential replacements for Mr. Gachagua. Among them are Cabinet Secretary nominee Alice Wahome, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, Cabinet Secretary nominee for Security Kithure Kindiki, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, and her Embu counterpart Cecil Mbarire.
