Kennedy Onyango, a promising 12-year-old from Ongata Rongai, tragically lost his life during recent anti-government protests, leaving behind dreams as vibrant as his artistic talent.
His mother, Jocinter Anyango, tearfully shared his aspirations to become an artist and journey to America, aspirations now forever shattered.
Kennedy's artistic flair was evident early on, recognized and nurtured by his teachers who saw in him a potential destined for greatness.
"My child's dream was telling me, 'Mum, this drawing will take me to America,'" Jocinter recounted, her voice trembling with emotion as she recalled his determination.
The path to America seemed within reach as Kennedy's teachers, impressed by his exceptional drawings, began mentoring him.
Selected among eight pupils for his unmatched skills, Kennedy harbored a dream to study abroad, fueled by his relentless passion for drawing.
His dedication was unwavering; even in the midst of protests, he ventured out to secure a book, driven by the desire to learn and achieve his dreams.
However, tragedy struck as Kennedy fell victim to violence during the protests. A single bullet caused severe hemorrhage, ending his young life and extinguishing the hopes that burned brightly in his heart.
The postmortem findings revealed the harsh reality, contradicting earlier reports of multiple gunshot wounds.
The grief-stricken family, led by Kennedy's father, Michael Ouma, expressed dissatisfaction with the autopsy report, insisting their son had been shot multiple times.
Despite the conflicting accounts, their plea remains unchanged: justice for Kennedy. "We are not satisfied with that report at all," Michael Ouma asserted, echoing the family's anguish and quest for clarity amidst the tragedy.
